Food and Family

I cooked!! And the only thing that didn’t turn out beautifully was the last batch of rolls I put in as we sat down to eat. Oops. The food and the company were so good, I forgot to get the poor rolls out of the oven. The rest of the food was delicious. I brined the turkey overnight using a simple recipe from my friend Molly Newman. Her husband has perfected the process over the years and was kind enough to share it with me. Simple and WONDERFUL!! The turkey was moist and seasoned to perfection. All the trimmings took a couple of days to get ready, but it was worth it. I’m ready to do it again.

We enjoyed the extra space of new house. Room for people to move around and nibble from one side of the kitchen while the women cooked from the other. Although we have space, we don’t have a big table yet, so the ‘kids’ table was at the island. 5 older kids sat there and Joshua and Sierra had their own special table next to the adult table. I enjoyed the small setting for the adults. It was easier to talk and eat with the kids occupied close by, but not on top of us. I’m sure we need to think about getting a bigger table, but I didn’t mind the set up at all.

We had a great Thanksgiving with people we love and the only thing that would have made it better is more family. I thought of my family spread out between Oregon and Pennsylvania and wished they were here. Miss you guys!!

I was busy cooking and being the perfect hostess, so Ken became the photographer. He did a great job getting candid shots and capturing the cozy fun feeling of the day. YAY, we have photos of parts of the house now. :) Below are a few shots of the festivities.

I very much enjoyed hosting and I look forward to doing it again…and again. Anyone want to come over?

Chris, the house we moved from wasn’t big enough to host much. We are very grateful for the huge drop in the price of homes RIGHT when we were ready to buy. We had been waiting and waiting and finally jumped on it. Grateful doesn’t even describe it. I’m thankful every day.
